Total 2140 Seoul children, aged from 2 weeks to 6 years 4 months were evaluated with Denver Developmental Screening Test and the results were compared with those of Denver and Tokyo children. Seoul children were found to be advanced in all 4 sectors of DDST, e.g. personal, social, fine motor, adaptvie, language and gross motor than Denver or Tokyo counterparts. Korean youngsters fast development...
Measurements of Blood Flow in the Ascending and Descending Aorta by Two-Dimensional doppler Echocardiography in School children.
Soon Ung Kang
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):972-981.   Published online September 30, 1987
Cardiac output measurements are among the most important physiologic indices of cardiovascular function. Flow computation is one of the major capabilities of Doppler echocardiography. The basic principle is that the average velocity of blood flow multiplied by the area through which the blood passes yields flow volume. The normal range of diameters and velocities in the ascending and descending aorta were established in 76...
Comparison of Pulmonary and Systemic Blood Flow and Ratio of Pulmonary Blood Flow to Systemic Blood Flow Obtained by Pulsed Wave Doppler Echocardiography and Fick Method.
Sung Gy Jin, Myeng Hee Cha, Kyeng Sook Cho, Doo Sung Moon
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):982-989.   Published online September 30, 1987
This study was designed to assess the accuracy of pulsed wave Doppler echocardiographic measurement of pulmonary blood flow(Qp), systemic blood flow(Qs) and the ratio of pulmonary blood flow to systemic blood flow(Qp/Qs) to compare with Fick method. Seventeen patients with ventricular septal defect, aged 10 months to 14 years, participated for this study, and Doppler echocardiograghic examinations using the Aloka SSD-880 were performed. Two dimensional...
Clinical Evaluation of Kidney Diseases in Children.
Pyung Kil Kim, Ho Taek Kim
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):990-1000.   Published online September 30, 1987
Disease pattern tends to change with improvements in the economic condition and social hygiene, and it is thought to be the same in renal disease. Yongdong Severance Hosptial is located in the Kang Nam area which is one of the most economically and socially developed areas. We assessed changes in the disease entity by reviewing clinical evaluations of renal diseases and by comparing...
Complication of Percutaneous Renal Biopsy in Children.
Seo Jeong Kim, Jae Seung Lee, Pyung Kil Kim
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1001-1013.   Published online September 30, 1987
Percutaneous renal biopsy is presently used more widely and selectively with fewer complications and a higher success rate than in the past. The improved methods of renal biopsy tissue handling and staining and the correlation of light microscopy results with those of electron and immunofluorescent microscopy have led to a quantum increase in our knowledge of renal diseases and have given great impetus to...
Clinical Value of Urinary β₂ -Microglobulin in Patients with Urianry Tract Infection.
Nak Uk Sung, Chang Ryul Kim, Jeh Hoon Shin, Woo Gill Lee
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1014-1020.   Published online September 30, 1987
Urinary tract infection (UTI) in children is relatively common infectious disease and it may be the forerunner of severe renal diseases in adulthood. The site of infection is an important factor in the evaluation of the clinical course, treatment and prognosis of patients with UTI, because patients with bacteriuria of renal origin (pyelonephritis) are probably at risk of developing the renal parenchymal reduction seen...
Syndrome of Inappropriate Secretion of Antidiuretic Hormone(SIADH) in Acute Respiratory Diseases.
Young Jee KIm, Young Yull Koh, Jeong Kee Seo, Hung Ko Moon
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1021-1028.   Published online September 30, 1987
The SIADH incidence and relevant factors in acute respiratory diseases were evaluated in 461 children with over 28 days old, hospitalized for bronchiolitis, viral pneumonia, bacterial pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonia and asthma, without other causes of electrolyte imbalance. The overall incidence of SIADH in acute respiratory diseases was 11.93%. The incidence in mycoplasma pneumonia (19.05%) was highest and incidence in bacterial pneumonia (17.42%), viral pneumonia (9.17%),...
Case Reports
A Case of Congenital Factor V Deficiency.
Byung Gug Jung, Hae Sung Cho, Jin Hyun Park, Jang Kwon Yang, Heui Jeong Kwon, In Sil Lee
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1029-1033.   Published online September 30, 1987
Congenital factor V deficiency is a rare hemorrhagic disease characterized by the various hemorr- hagic manifestations and the prologations of clotting time, prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time. We experienced a case of congenital factor V deficiency in a 4 month-old male infant, who had suffered from the bleeding tendncy since his neonatal period. We review literatures briefly and present this case.
A Case of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Associated with Acute Viral Hepatitis B.
Chong Kyu Woo, Eun Kyung Choi, Hae Ryung Chung, Dong Heuk Keum
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1034-1039.   Published online September 30, 1987
We experienced a case of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in 3-year-old male patient associated with acute viral hepatitis B. Characteristic findings of this disease are pallor, fever, tachycardia, jaundice, hemoglobinuria, of which the onset is acute or chronic. Although the pathogenic mechanism of this disease is uncertain, it can be associated with pneumonia, measles, varicella, viral hepatitis (50%) and underlying autoinunune deficiency (32%). Diagnosis...
A Case of Alport's Syndrome.
Jung Bae Lee, Jong Kyun Lee, Pyung Kil Kim, Hyeon Joo Jeong, In Jun Choi
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1040-1048.   Published online September 30, 1987
We have experienced a case of Alporfs syndrome. The patient was suspicious to make the dignosis of Alporfs syndrome at first examination when he was five years and seven months old. At that time diagnostic work-up were included audiogram and kidney biopsy. His family history was more impressive. His elder brother has died with undetermined cause of nephrotic syndrome one month ago and his...
A Case of Epidermolysis Bullosa Dystrophica.
Soon Yol Hwang, Jeong Sil Han, Gu Seok Jung, Sung Won Kim, Kil Hyun Kim, Chung Hee Chi
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1049-1054.   Published online September 30, 1987
Epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica (EBD) is a rare, chronic noninflammatory mechanobullous disease of hereditary trait, which easily produces bulla by minor injury or spontaneously. We experienced a case of EBD in a 27th day of life female patient. Diagnosis was confirmed by clinical features, light and electron microscopy. A brief review of related literature was made.
A Case of Wilson-Mikity Syndrome.
Jang Kwun Yang, Byoung Gug Jung, Hae Sung Cho, In Sil Lee
J Korean Pediatr Soc. 1987;30(9):1055-1059.   Published online September 30, 1987
Wilson-Mikity syndrome is a chronic respiratory distress in the premature infant. The most striking component of the syndrome is the distinctive chest radiographic finding. We report a case of Wilson-Mikity syndrome in a premature baby and briefly review the literature.
