Abstract
Clinical and pathologic findings obtained from 30 hospitalized patients with ovarian tumor which is confirmed by operative and microscopic findings were reviewed. The results were followings; 1)The age distribution showed that 73.3% of cases were between the ages of 11 ~15 years, and 10.0% under 6 year-old. 2)The common symptoms were abdominal distension or mass, abdominal pain, and the other gastrointestinal manifestations in order of frequency. 3) Physical examination revealed the abdominal mass, abdominal tenderness, and abdominal distension in order, and pelvic mass noted in 60.0% of cases among whom the rectal examination performed. 4)Roentgenographic findings included the shadows of mass, calcified densities, displacement of the intestinal pattern, and displacement of the ureter etc.. Abdominal ultrasonography showed the cystic shadow on ovary. 5) The site of the ovarian tumor was on the right and left side in equal frequency. In one case, bilateral involvement was noted. 6)The size of the tumor varied between 6 and 10cm in 36.7% of cases, between 11 and 15 cm in 26.1% of cases. 7)Unilateral oophorectomy or cystectomy was performed for the benign tumors. In cases of malignant tumor, total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy or unilateral oophorectomy with, partial omentectomy was done. 8)Among 30 cases of the ovarian tumors, 19 cases (63.3%) were germ cell tumor, 7 cases (23.3%) were epithelial tumor, and the malignancy was noted on 10.0% of all.
