Abstract
Case I. The first cases is a 6 years old boy who was admitted in the Hospital because of sudden severe headache, vomiting, moderate grade fever and spasm of the upper extremities with sleep disturbance in the night for one days duration. laboratory findings on admission are as follows: Mantoux rection : negative Chest X-Ray : negative Spinal fluid : out look : clear pandy; ( + ) sugar; 75mg cell count; 473/mm3 cell; Lymph (++) smear and culture; negative On the third day of the admission swelling of the bilateral parotid gland has developed and he was treated with cortisone lOOmg/day for 5 days. On the second day of the cortisone therapy fever subsided and the meningeal symptoms were almost disappeared, on the 7th day the findings of the cerebrospinal fluid were improved and on the 12th hospital day he was discharged from the hospital without any sequelae. Case ii. The second case is a nine years old boy who has been suffering from moderate grade fever with swelling of the right parotid gland fallowing left parotid gland swelling a weak prior to admission.One day prior to almission the patient began to hsve sudden high fever, savexe hea iaoh0 with vomiting, although the parotid gland swelling were almost disappeared. Laboratory findings on admission were as £oHows; Mantoux reaction : negative Chest X-ray : negative Spinal fluid : out look; clear Pandy; ( + ) sugar; 75mg cell count; 540/mm3 ceH Lymph( + + ) smear and culture; negative The patient wa3 on cortisone lOOmg/day for 5 days. From the second day of cortisone therapy fever subsided and the meningeal symptoms were disappeared gradually. The finding of the cerebrospinal fluid improves considerably on the 7th day ani he was barged on 21st hospital day without sequelae.
