- Abstract
- A clinical and histopathologic study was made oin 50 cases of renal biopies in children who admitted to chon buk national university hospital from December 1987 to July 1990.
The result were as follows :
1) Among 50 cases, 35 cases were male and 15 cases female. The sex ratio of male to female was 2.3 : 1. The age distribution was from 2.5 years to 15 years of age, and the most prevalent age froup was 9∼10 years.
2) The clinical classification of the 50 cases of renal biopsies were nephrotic syndrome 24 cases(48%), IgA nephropathy 11 cases(22.0%), Henoch-Schonlein nephritis 7 cases(14.0%), chronic glomerulonephritis 4 cases(8.0%), acute glomerulonephritis 3 cases(6.0%) and acute renal failure 1 cases(2.0%).
3) The light microscopic diagnosis of the 50 cases of renal biopsies were minimal lesion 15 cases(30.0%), diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis 7 cases(14.0%), focal and segmental glmerulosclerosis 6 cases (12.0%), focal segmental proliferative glomerulonephritis 3 cases(6.0%), membranous nephropathy 1 case(2.0%), diffuse sclerosing glomerulonephritis 1 case(2.0%) and acute tubular necrosis 1 case(2.0%)
4) Immunopathologic diagnosis correlated with light microscopic diagnosis of the 50 cases of renal biopsies in children were minimal lesion 13 cases (26.0%), IgA nephropathy 12 cases(24.0%), Henoch-Schonlein nephritis 7 cases (14.0%), focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis 6 cases (12.0%), postinfectious glomerulonephritis 5 cases (10.0%), membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis 1 cases(2.0%)
5) Histopathologic classification of nephrotic syndroime 2 cases (6.9%). The cases of primary nephrotic syndrome were minimal lesion 13 cases (44.8%), diffuse mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis 6 cases (20.7%), focal and segmental gloimerulosclerosis 6 cases (20.7%), membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis 1 case (3.4%).
All cases of secondary nephrotic syndrome were Henoch-Schonlein nephritis.
6) IgA nephropathy is more common in males than in females (3 :1).
Hematuria was observed in 11 cases (91.6%) in IgA nephropathy and hypertension was observed in 8 cases (66.6%).
