- A Clinical and Statistical Analysis on Acute Appendicitis in Children

- Abstract
- Thjis report is a clinical analysis of 367 cases of acute appendicitis in children under the age of 15, which were treated at Dae Dong Hospital during the past 5 year period from January 1986 to December 1990.
The results were summerized as follows:
1) The incidence was low (0.5%) under the age of 3.
2) The sex ratio of male to female was 1.4:1
3) It occured most frequently in May and June, however it was not significant.
4) The most common clinical symptoim was right lower quadrant pain and the most frequent clinical sign was tenderness on right lower quadrant.
5) Leukocytosis (10,000.mm3 over) was found in 75.2% in imperforated group and 87.5% in perforated group.
6) The misdiagnosis rate was 15.4%
7) The overall perforation rate was 131.1%
8) The incidence of perforated cases were 50% under the age of 6 and 8.8% over the age 7.
9) The average hospital stay was 5.64 days in imperforated group and 9.83 days in perforated group.
