- Abstract
- Antral or prepyloric mucosal diaphragms (webs) are composed of mucosa which enclose a membrane of submucosa and located at the antrum of the stomach at variable distances from the pylorus. They may be congential in origin or secondary to chronic peptic ulcer disease. Obstructive symptoms occur when diaphragmatic aperture is less than 1 centimeter. The diagnosis relies on the history, UGIS and gastric endoscopic findings or not infrequently will be made at laparotomy. Surgical treatment is recommended for patients who have obstructive symptoms. Antral web or pyloric web, although rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal obstructive symptoms in patients of any age.
We reported three young children with the presenting symptoms of persistent nonbilous vomiting and hematemesis. The gastrofiberendoscopy and the UGIS revealed pyloric or antral stenosis with ulcerations. The prepyloric antral webs in two patients and the pyloric web in one patient were diagnosed at surgery.
All patients remained asymptomatic after operation.
