Abstract
Purpose
: Adult essential hypertension begins in early childhood. Blood pressure patterns in children differ from those in adults, and the design of hypertension programs need to modified for young people. Hypertension in children is associated with several factors, but correlation with lipid profiles is not unknown. The purpose of this study is to analyze the affecting factors in child hypertension and know the correlation with lipid profiles.
Methods
: Blood pressure, anthropometric parameters (body weight, body mass index), and serum lipid levels (total cholesterol, tryglyceride, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol) were measursed in 1650 school children (910 males and 740 females). We analyzed the correlation between blood pressure using the ocillometric method and serum lipid level or anthrometric parameters.
Results
: 1) Blood pressure was incresed steadily with age in both sex. 2)Systolic blood pressure was correlated with total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, height, weight, BMI. 3) Height, weight, BMI in 6-7 age group, weight, BMI, triglyceride in 8-9 age group, and height, weight, BMI, triglyceride in 10-11 age group were significantly higher in high BP group compared to normal BP group. 4) Incidence of hyperlipidemia (total cholesterol, and triglyceride) was significantly higher in high BP group compared to normal BP group. 5) Incidence of family history with hypertension was higher in high BP group compared to normal BP group.
Conclusion
: These data suggest the importance of the screening of lipid profiles in school children with high blood pressure. For the prevention of hypertensive diseases in adults, serial measurement of blood pressure is necessary in children with family history of hypertension.
