- Abstract
- Eosinophilic gastroenteritis(EG) is a chronic disorder in which edsinophils constitute the predominant cell type in the inflammatory infiltrates of the gastrointestinaHGD tract. This disease was first described by Kaiiser in 1937. The clinical symptoms and signs are variable according to the extent of the eosinophilic infiltration(diffuse versus cir¡ⓒ cumscribed) and the depth of the eosinophilic reaction (mucosal, muscular, serosal). Some cases mayor may not be related with allergy disorder such as food allergy. Total IgE has been reported to be elevated in some patients and normal in others. Serum IgE levels demonstrate variable responses to food challenge, suggesting that both IgE¡ⓒ mediated and non-lgE-mediated mechanisms may be important in different patients with EG. We diagnosed and treated a case of non-lgE-mediated, serosal eosinophilic gastroenteritis in a child with chronic asthma who had severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and ascites.
