- Abstract
- Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system and its lesions are multiple in time as well as space.
We experienced a case of a 14-year-old-girl with dysphagia, paresthesia and headache. Brain MRI scans demonstrated high signal intensities on T2-weighted images at the medulla and upper cervical cord. Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis was diagnosed and methylprednisolone pulse therapy was done. After 6 months she re-experienced diplopia, ophthalmoplegia and other neurological symptoms. There were increased signal intensities on T2-weighted image at the tegmentum, periaqueduct and hypothalamus in follow-up brain MRI. Finally, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis was made. Methylprednisolone pulse therapy was started and she then recovered without any neurologic symptoms and signs. We report a case of multiple sclerosis in a 14-year- old-girl who was confirmed by clinical courses and serial MRIs.
