Abstract
A clinical study was performed on 65 patients with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia who were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics of Seoul Paik hospital from September 1,1989 to August 31, 1990. The results were as follows; 1) Seasonal distribution showed a high frequency in summer (33 cases; 50.8%). 2) The peak incidence was 5 to 9 years of age (32cases;49.2%). 3) Male to female ratio was 1:1.17(30:35). 4) On the chest X-ray film, the common type of pneumonia were bronchopneumonia (31 cases; 47. 7%) and lobar pneumonia (22 cases; 33.8%). Normal was noted in 9 cases (13.8%). 5) 93.8% of 65 study cases who had BCG vaccination previously showed negative tuberculin test. 6) Among 56 study cases, cold agglutinin tests was done in 35 cases after 11th or more days of illness. Eleven cases showed positive conversion after 11 days of illness. 7) The titer of Mycoplasma antibody and cold agglutinin was higher in patients with chest lesion. 8) There seemed to be no relationship between the duration of illness and the height of the titer of Mycoplasma antibody and cold agglutinin. 9) *Mycoplasma antibody test (IHA test) and cold agglutinin test were done simultaneously in 74 patients. The sensitivity of cold agglutinin test was 67.9%, and the specificity was 87%. The predictability of positive result was 76%, the predictability of negative result was 81.6%.
