- Abstract
- Pulmonary blastoma is a rare primary lung tumor consisting of a mixture of blastomatous and
immature-looking epithelial and mesenchymal components. The histogenesis is not clarified. This
disease is first described by Barnard in 1952 as “embryoma of lung” because of its resemblance to
fetal lungs. In 1961, Spencer reported three new cases and suggested the name ^pulmonary blastoma”
because of the resemblance to nephroblastoma and his concept that these tumors arose from primitive
pleuripotential mesenchyme, the pulmonary blastema.
We had experienced a case of pulmonary blastoma in 4 1/12-year-old girl who had huge mass in her
left lung field in chest P-A film and CT scan. Her complaint was fever, coughing and hemoptysis. The
final diagnosis was made by typical histologic findings. We report a case of pulmonary blastoma with
brief review of related literatures.
