- Abstract
- For the purpose of establishing normal reference values, the author measured blood pressure of 6,
221 school children (male 3,587, female 2,634) in Kwangju area using automatic noninvasive oscil-
lometic method.
Blood pressure increased as age and height increased. Distributions of systolic blood pressures were
101±7 mmHg (Mean±SD) in boys and 102±7mmHg (Mean±SD) in sgirls at age 7 and increased with
a rate of 1,6 mmHg per year in boys and 1,2 mmHg per year in girls. Systolic pressure in boys was
higher than girls during age 11 to 13, however reversed since age 14.
Diastolic pressure was 53 ±99 mmHg (Mean ± SD) in boys and 53±10 (Mean±SD) mmHg in girls
at age 7 and increased slowly as children grew older.
Blood pressure values of 50th, 75th, 90th and 95th percentiles for each age and sex were also
presented.
