- Abstract
- The C-reactive protein is an abnormal protein, which is reacted to various non-specific stmuli such
as infection, tissue necrosis, trauma, neoplasm and granuloma formation. Hence, C-reactive protein
was index of infection and its allied diseases.
Serum C-reactive protein determination on total 207 patients with infectious disease and allied
conditions were done in the pediatric ward of Chungnnam National Hospital during the period from
Jan, 1988 to March, 1989.
The comparision with patient’s temperature, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, leukocyte count and
differential count were made in those case.
The results are as follows;
1. Positive rate of inflammatory parameters
The high positive reaction in infectious diseases and allied conditions revealed CRP (68%), ESR
(62%), and fever (59%) and the low positive reaction revealed leukocyte (31%), neutrophil (29%), stab
(28%).
2. Positive rate of CRP
1) Positive reaction of CRP was not significantly different accoding to age interval(p>0.05).
2) The incidence of CRP positive rate was high in the sera of patients with bacterial infection and
connective tissue diseases, but it was low in the sera of patients with viral infection.
3) The incidence and the intensity of CRP positive rate in the sera of patient with infections caused
by staphylococcus, salmonella, streptococcus, E. Coli revealed higher than that caused by rota virus.
3. The Intensity changes of CRP
1) The degree of CRP was showed as follows; negative (32%), trace (5%), +1 (14%), +2 (11%), +
3 (18%), over +4 (20%).
2) The intensity of CRP in infectious diseases and allied conditions was showed that otits media,
scarlet fever, bacterial meningitis, cellulitis, SBE, and JRA were higher than viral hepatitis, bronchial
asthma, measles, viral exanthem, gastritis, cystitis.
3) According to increased intensity of CRP, ESR, leukocyte count and differential count were
relatively correlated, but temperature was not.
4) The changes of CRP was decreased in the convalescent stage more than in the acute stage.
4. Relation between CRP and other parameters
1) At 仕le case of CRP positive reaction, there was showed as follows; elevated ESR (80%), leu-
kocytosis (83%), netrophilia (77%), high fever (77%), increased stab (75%).
2) At the case of strong positive reaction (over+2 or +3), there was showed that the elevated ESR
was related higher than others (over +3),whereas the increased stab was related higher than others
(over +2).
