- Abstract
- To estimate hematologic reference values of the peripheral blood of newnboms and infants, the
author examined the routine hematologic parameters by heel or finger puncture in 73 cases of first
day newborn, 64 cases of 7 day newborns, 10 cases of 2 month infants, 14 cases of 3~6 month infants
and 13 cases of 15~18 month children.
The routine hematologic parameters including red cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, red cell
index (MCV, MCH, MCHC) and total leukocyte count were performed on Cell-Dyn 900 automated
blood cell counter.
The results obtained were summerized as follows:
1) The mean values of the cell count were 5,900,000±800,000 /mm3 in first day newborns, 5,300,
000±700,000 /mm3 in 7 day newborns, 3,900,000±300,000 /mm3 in 2 month infants, 4,500,000±500,
000 /mm3 in 3~6 month infants, and 4,700,000 /mm3 in 15—18 month children. The mean values of
hemoglobin were 19.8±2.3g/dl in first day newborns, 16.9±1.8 in 7 day newbonis, 11.8±0.9g/dl
in 2 month infants, 11.9±0.9g/dl in 3—6 month infants, and 12.6±0.9g/dl in 15—18 month children.
The mean values of hematocrit were 59.1 ±5.6% in first day newborns, 50.8±5.3 in 7 day newborns,
35.3±2.8% in 2month infants, 36.2±2.8% in 3—6month infants, and 37.5±4.5% in 15—18month
chi Iren.
2) The mean values of MCV were 102±9.3 fl in first day newborns, 98±9.0 fl in 7 day newb ms,
91.1±3.5 fl in 2 month infants, 80.9±8.4 fl in 3—6 month infants, and 79.2±9.0 fl in 15〜 18 month
children. The mean values of MCH were 34.2±3.6 pg in first day newborns, 32.5±3.4 pg in 7 day
newborns, 30.7±0.9 pg in 2 month infants, 26.7±2.5 pg in 3~6 month infants, and 26.6±1.8 pg in 15
—18 month children. The mean values of MCHC were 33,5g/dl in first day newborns, 33.2±1.5g/
dl in 7 day newborns, 33.5±0.4 g/dl in 2 month infants, 33.0±0.8 g/dl in 3~6 month infants, and 33.
8±3.5g/dl in 15—18 month children.
3) The mean values of total leukocyte count were 18,950±5,190 /mm3 in first day newborns, 11,
730±3,600 /mm3 in.7 day newborns, 8,900±l,780 /mm3 in 2 month infants, 10,410±2,780 /mm3 in 3
〜6 month infants, and 8,620±2,900 /mm3 in 15〜 18 month children.
4) The red cell count, hemoglobin and hematocrit showed the highest values at first day after birth
and then decreased rapidly to the lowest value at 2 months after birth, and then increased gradually
during the period from 3—6 month to 15 〜 18 month after birth.
5) The MCV and MCH showed the highest values at first day after birth and then decreased rapidly
to the lowest values at 3—6 month after birth. Those showed no significant change during the period
from 3〜6 month to 15-18 month after birth. The MCHC showed no significant change during the
period from first day to 15—18 month after birth.
6) The total leukocyte count showed the highest value at first day and then decreased rapidly to
the lowest value at 2 month after birth. That increased during the period from 2 month to 3~6 month
after birthd and then decreased again during the period form 3~6 month to 15—18 month after birth.
