- Abstract
- An analysis was carried out on the pediatric patients who visited the emergency room of the
Kwangju Christian Hospital during the three-year-period from Jan. 1985 to Dec. 1987.
The results were as follows:
1) Out of 27,610 total emergency patients, 9,784 (35.8%) were under 15 years of age.
2) The male-to-female ratio was 1.6:1.
3) The peak incidence was found among children aged between 1 month to 11 months (27.3%).
4) Seasonal incidence tended to be higher in summer and lower in winter.
5) Nearly one third of 仕le patients (29.8%) visited in the evening hours between 8:00 PM and 12:00
PM.
6) The majority of the patients (78.7%) was pediatric cases, whereas the rest was referred to G.S.
(9.0%), O.S. (6.2%) and E.N.T. (3.0%) in the decreasing order.
7) About three fourths (73.6%) of the patients came from urban area of Kwangju City and the rest
from surrounding rural areas.
8) As classified by International Classification of Diseases, the most frequently encountered
diseases were the respiratory diseases (31.2%) followed by gastrointestinal diseases (23.2%) and injury
and poisoning (13.0%).
9) Most frequent disease was acute gastroenteritis (18.3%) followed by nasopharyngitis (14.2%),
pneumonia (6.2%), pharyngotonsillitis (5.6%), and febrile convulsion-(5.2%) in decreasing order.
10) Forty three percents of total patients were admitted for further treatments.
