- Abstract
- The False tendon is an anomalous chordae tendinae which attaches to abnormal sites in left
ventricle. We studied the incidence of false tendon and relationship of the false tendon, functional
murmur and arrhythmias using echocardiography.
The results were as follow;
1) We found false tendons in 42 cases of total 307 cases, 13.6%
2) In group I (the patients who have congenital heart disease), the incidence of false tendon was 10.
6%, and in group II (the patients who have heart murmur without structural anomalies of the heart),
56.0%, and in group III (the patients who do not have heart murmur without structural anomalies of
the heart), 9.3%
3) The incidence of false tendon was higher in group II than in group I or III(p<0.01) suggesting
that there exists significant relationship between false tendon and functional murmur.
4) The attachment of false tendon between upper interventricular septum and lateral wall of left
ventricle was found in 16 cases (38.1%), between mid-interventricular septum and lateral wall of left
ventricle in 15 cases (35.7%), and between mid-interventricular septum and apex in 11 cases (26.2%).
5) In group I, the associated cardiac anomalies were ventricular septal defect (7 cases), tetralogy
of Fallot (5 cases), patent ductus arteriosus (2 cases), atrial septal defect (1 case).
6) We observed cardiac arrhythmias in patients with false tendon in 42 cases (45.3%). They were
sinus arrhythmia, 13 cases (31.0%), r AV block, 4 cases (9.5%), and premature ventricular contrac-
tion, 2 cases (4.8%).
