- Abstract
- A clinical study was performed on 145 cases of acute poisoning who were admitted in pediatric
department of Kyung Hee University Hospital during the past 15 years from Jan. 1973 to Dec. 1987.
The results are as follows;
1) There was no significant annual differences in frequency of poisoning, and the peak incindence
in a year was in April and July (12.4%).
2) The sex ratio of male to female was 1.1:1.
3) The cause of poisoning was mainly accidental cause (84.1%).
4) The poisoning was occured most frequently from 6:00 to 12:00 O’clock.
5) The most frequent time interval from poisoning to visit to hospital was within 30 minutes (16.
6%).
6) The causative substances were drugs (31.1%) and then CO gases (26.9%), insecticides (18.6%) in
ranks.
7) Symptoms at adimission were altered consciousness, vomiting, irritability and dyspnea in order
of frequency
8) The most common complication was pneumonia (7.6%).
9) Three among the total 145 patients were expired.
