- Abstract
- LDH which are widely distributed in mammalian tissues, being rich in myocardium, kidney, liver
and muscle, and which is well known to catalyzes the reversible oxidation of lactate to pyruvate.
We investigated serum LDH & Isoenzyme changes in 317 cases of children with respiratory disease
and in 117 cases of healthy children as control. The objectives of this study were to ascertain whether
serum LDH changes with respiratory diseases.
The results obtained were as follows.
1) The average serum LDH levels are 383 ±68 U/ml and showed decreasing tendency by age as
follows: 571±91 U/ml in under one year old age group, 560±125 U/ml in 1 year, 429±107 U/ml in 2
year, 473 ±58 U/ml in 3 year, 444 ±84 U/ml in 4 year, 453 ±87 U/ml in 5 year, 458 ±95 U/ml in 6 year,
398±29 U/ml in 7 year, 361 ±51 U/ml in 8 year, 376+71 U/ml in 9 year, 393±88 U/ml in 10 year, 375±
45 U/ml in 11 year, 352±39 U/ml in 12 year and 310±52 U/ml in above 13 year respectively.
2) The average serum LDH levels in respiratory disease also showed decreasing tendency by age
significantly (R<0.5).
3) Serum LDH levels are increased in pneumonia, especially in interstitial type than lobar type but
there were no statistical difference between bronchitis, bronchiolitis, asthma and control.
4) Isoenzyme of LDH in pneumonia resulted slight increase in L2, L3 without statistical signifi-
cance.
