Abstract
Sensitivity and specificity of detection of Mitral Regurgitation (MR) was assessed by Color Doppler. The degree of MR was also estimated by the Regurgitant Jet Length and Maximum Regurgitant Jet Area/Left Atrial Area (Max. RJA/LAA)% and compared with that assessed by Left Ventriculography. The following results were obtained: 1) Of 108 patients with an adequate Color Doppler study, 90 han no MR by Ventriculography. All were also negative for MR by Color Doppler, for a specificity of 100%, Of 18 cases with MR documented by Ventriculography, Color Doppler dotected MR in 17, for a sensitivity 94.4%. 2) Semiquantitative grading of severity of MR can be done simply on the basis of Regurgitant Jet Length from the valve orifice with a good correlation with Left Ventirculorgaphy (r=0.955, p<0.001). 3) Assessment by the Max. RJA/LAA% also revealed similar results to the Regurgitant jet len h measurement (r=0.969, p<0.001).
