Abstract
The vesicoureteral reflux(VUR) is frequently found among the patients with urinary tract infection(UTI) and progress to reflux nphropathy and even renal failure. So, early detection and pr er treatment are important to prevent renal damage. The authors studied 221 patients with UTI admitted at Sowha children’s hospital from January, 1985 to June, 1988. Intravenous pyelography and voiding cystourethrography were performed in all patient with UTI. The resulte were as follows: 1) VUR was seen in 35 children among 2~1 patients with UTI and the incidence was 15.8%. 2) In general, there was no significant difference in inciednce by sex and age but under 1 year of age, male had higher incidence of VUR than female. 3) Both sides of ureters were equally affected in general, and bilaterality was en in 17 patients. 4) The most frequent causative organiam in UTI associated with VUR was E. coli. 5) Fever, urinary frequency and dysuria were commonly associated symptom in VUR. 6) Rate of disappearance of VUR in medical treatment was 72.2% during the follow up period of 3 months to 18 months.
