- Abstract
- This experiment was carried out to investigate the disturbance of lipid metabolism after long-term
administration of adriamycin in rats (2.5 mg/kg/week for 5 weeks, S.C.).
Changes of Serum lipids, GOT, GPT, LDH, albumin, BUN, and creatinine were investigated after
administration of adriamycin.
Clinical findings of congestive heart failure and changes of body weight were also observed during
experiment.
The results were as follows;
1) Serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, free cholesterol, HDL cholesterol were makkedly elevated
after administration of adriamycin.
2) No significant differences were found in serum GOT, GPT, LDH, albumin, BUN, creatinine
between control and adriamycin administered group.
3) All classes of lipoproteih were increased after administration of adriamycin compose to that of
control group on lipoprotein electrophoretic analysis.
4) Symptoms and sings of congestive heart failure (tachypnea, ascites, hepatomegaly) were appeared
in 6 rats (43%) in experimental group.
These results suggest that adriamycin-induced cardiotoxicity is related to disturbance of lipid
metabolism in rats.
