- Abstract
- Horseshoe kidney is the most common type of fusion anomaly during renal development. We report
5 cases of horseshoe kidney who were diagnosed at the pediatric department of Yonsei Medical
Center, from February 1971 to December 1986.
The summary of the study is as follows;
1) The age were variable from 1 day to seventeen years, 3 boys and 2 girls were affected.
2) As for the clinical symptoms at presentation, pain, urinary tract infection and abdominal mass
were noted.
3) Among the associated anomalies, the genitourinary tract anomalies were noted in 3 cases, and
other cases had multiple congenital anomalies. We could not find any case of Turner syndrome.
4) As for the diagnosis, most valuable method was IVP.
5) As for the treatment, surgical treatment was done in 2 cases with hydronephrosis and urinary
tract infection.
