- Abstract
- The authors reviewed 630 pediatric-age patients who visited emergency room in Dong-Boo City
Hospital during 2-year period from Jan. 1985 to Dec. 1986.
The results were as follows:
1) The patients under the 15 years of age were 11.4% of total emergency room patients and male
to female ratio was 2:1.
2) The patients between 12 years and 15 years of age occupied 28.5% of all pediatric patients and
55.0% were above 6 years of age.
3) The visiting pattern showed higher frequency in May, June, and July than rest of the year.
4) The most popular time of visiting emergency room was between 4:00-8:00 in the afternoon,
during which 26.2% of all pediatric patients were seen.
5) Minor 14.1% of children who visited emergency room had medical insurance coverage, 22.0%
were on medical aid program, and major 63.7% had no insurance at all.
6) The most frequent disease was accidents (33.0%), followed by respiratory (17.9%), gastrointesti-
nal (12.4%), and surgical disease (7.7%).
7) The most frequent accident was trauma (52.4%), followed by bum (18.7%). In the respiratory
disease, U.R.I. (52.2%) was most common, then come pharyngotonsillitis (21.6%) and pneumonia (14.
1%) in receding order.
8) The admission rate through emergency room was 12.1% of total pediatric emergency patients.
