- Abstract
- We observed 63 cases ranging in age from 3 years to 15 years seen by gastrofibroscopy in Dept, of
Int. Med. and Dept, of Ped. of Kyung hee Univ. Hospital from January 1980 to December 1985 and
following results were obtained
1) The male to female ratio was about 1:1.17. The frequency of the age distribution was 1.6% below
5 years, 25.4% in 6-10 years and 73% in 11-15 years.
2) The chronic recurrent epigastric pain (72.4%) and the UGI bleeding (8%) were the most frequent
in according to the classification of indication.
3) The mucosal lesion(29 cases, 57%) was the most common abnormal finding and the superficial
gastritis(14 cases) was the most common among the lesion. The ulcerative lesion(13 cases, 26.5%) was
the second most common. The gastric ulcer to duodenal ulcer ratio was about 3:1.
4) We experienced 5 cases of biopsy and its results were same as the gastrofibroscopy. The removal
of foreign body (needle-1 case) and the alcohol injection therapy(l case) were successful.
5) There were no complication above the procedures.
In conclusion, the endoscope is a safe, highly accurate instrument, which produces little patient
discomfort and provides invaluable information. Especially, it is one of the necessary and important
procedures in chronic recurrent abdominal pain and UGI bleeding respectively.
