- Abstract
- Neonatal spontaneous pneumomediastinum is a rare phenomenon which is observed in case of
respiratory distressed, meconium stained and meconium aspirated neonate. In certain state, air can
leak from the ruptured alveoli into the pulmonary interstitium and movement of this air along the
vascular structures may result in pneumomediastinum. We experienced a case of spontaneous
pneumomediastinum, in a 3 day-old male infant (43+5 wks gestational age) who was delivered in
meconium stained state. The review of the literature was made briefly.
