Abstract
The human growth hormone (hGH) levels were evaluated in 13 diabetes mellitus, 11 patients were insulin dependent diabetes (ages 2 yr 10 mo to 13 yr 14 mo), 2 patients were noninsulin dependent diabetes (age 12 yr & 12 yr 5 mo). No difference in hGH level was observed in relation to duration of diabetes. The hGH responses to glucagon 1 mg injection in diabetes were greater than normal controls (p<0.05). The hGH levels in type 1 DM were higher than type II DM. The hGH levels were higher in poorly controlled diabetes than good controlled one. Thus, the hypersecretion of growth hormone may be the cause as much as the consequence of poor diabetic control.
