- Abstract
- Since the initiation of routine vitamin K prophylaxis in the newborn, the incidence of
hemorrhagic disease of the newborn has been dramatically decreased. We report here a
case of intracranial hemorrhage due to vitamin K deficiency in a 2-month-old which was
diagnosed with cranial ultrasonography. With advent of cranial ultrasonography which is
portable, relatively inexpensive and noninvasive, the intracranial hemorrhage is easily
confirmed especially as long as the anterior fontanel is opened. In addition, the clinician
should remain alert to the possibility of vitamin K deficient hemorrhage beyond the neon-
atal period.
