- Abstract
- Subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn is an uncommon inflammatory disorder of adipose tissue, which is characterzed by multiple erythematous subcutaneous nodular swellings appearing in the first week to a month of life with occasional diffuse calcification. The precipitating factors presumably concerned in the disease are asphyxia, birth trauma, irritation and cold exposure. We observed a case of subcutaneous fat necrosis of the newborn with diffuse calcification in which multiple intramuscular injection and cesarean section due to preeclampsia and cephalo-pelvic disproportion were suspected as provocative factors.
