- Abstract
- In order to determine the concentration of Ca, P, and Mg of breast mik and the alterations of their concentrations during the period of lactation, the authors studied the concentrations of Ca, P, and Mg of breast milk from 68 Korean healthy nursing mothers who delivered at term. Ca, P, and Mg concentration of breast milk were measured by calorimetric method(Ca; OCPC method. P: Fiske-Subbarow method. Ma: Titan yellow method). The following results were obtained; 1)The mean Ca concentration in transitional milk was 32.38±3.71 mg/dl and 27.4±3.73 mg/dl in mature milk. The Ca concentration in transitional milk was higher than those of
mature milk(p<0.001). 2)The mean P concentration in transitional milk was 16.07±2. 93 mg/dl and 5.92±1.21
mg/dl in mature milk. The P concentration in transitional milk was slightly higher than those of mature milk(p<0.05). 3)The mean Mg concentration in transitional milk was 3.33±0.5 mg/dl and 3.12+0.73
mg/dl in mature milk. 4)The mean Ca/P ratio of transitional milk was 2.0±0.3 and 1.7±0.2 of mature milk.
The Ca/P ratio of transitional milk was higher than those of mature milk(p<0.01). 5)The mean Ca and P concentration in transitional milk was increased with the duration of lactation, and the mean Ca and P concentration in mature milk showed a tendency of decrease with the duration of lactation. However, the mean Mg concentration was remained nearly constant value during the period of latoation.
