A Clinical Observation on Childhood Bronchial Asthma.

Abstract
The clinical observation on 50 bronchial asthma patients were seen at the Department of Pediatrics, P.N.U. H. from July 1983 to July 1984. The results were following: 1)Age distribution at the time of visiting Allergic Clinic ranged between 1 year and 15 years. Most patients(56%) were between and 9 years of age. Sex ratio was 2.3 : 1 with, male predominance. 2)The peak age of onset was below 6 years of age. 44 cases being included. 3)In 24% of cases there noted allergic history and allergic family history was positive in 4) Eosinophilia was noted in 60% and closely related to the allergic history of patients. 5)Prick and intradermal skin test was performed on 50 patients. 44 cases(88%) showed positive reaction and frequency of detection of allergens revealed more than 1.6. Allergens with positive reaction were dust in 80%, pollen in 24%, mould in 18%, food in 14%, wood in 8%, bacteria in 6%, epithelial in 6%, and fabrics in 4%. The agreement rate and correlation between skin test and RAST was studied. The agreement rate of house dust was 62%, that of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus was 78% and that of Dermatophagoides farinae was 86%. 6)Total IgE level measured by PRIST after 13 months of therapy showed equal or reduced level.
