Abstract
A clinical study was done about echocardiographic findings of 31 cases of rheumatic carditis among 56 cases of rheumatic fever admitted to Pediatric Department of Busan National University Hospital from July, 1982 for 2 years. The following results were obtained: 1)The incidence of rheumatic carditis was 55.4% among rheumatic fever and the peak age was 12~13 years old and the female were affected slightly more frequently than male. 2)The frequency of clinical findings of rheumatic carditis, organic murmur(100%) was the most frequent and congestive heart failure(68%), cardiomegaly(4:8%), and pericarditis (39%) in the order. 3)The incidence of involved valve, mitral valve was most frequently involved(93.5%) and aortic valve(29.0%), tricuspid valve(6.5%) and pulmonary valve(6.5%) in the order. 4)The echocardiographic findings of involved valve, mitral insufficiency were 19 cases (61.3%) and the most frequent and mitral stenosis was 1 case(3.2%) and the least findings of rheumatic carditis, the measurements of LAD, Ao., LVESd, LA/Ao. were higher than those in the normal control group, but in the measurements of FS(%), there was no difference between carditis group and control group. 6)In the comparison of echocardiographic findings of rheumatic carditis with or without past history, in the group with past history the measurements of LAD, LA/Ao., LVESd were higher than those in the group without past history(p<0.005~0.025). But, in the measurements of Ao., LVEDd, FS(%) there was no difference between two groups. And among the group with congestive heart failure, there was no difference in the FS (%) between two groups with or without past history.
