Abstract
Carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the most serious public health problem in Korea. Author analysed 126 cases of pediatric CO poisoning which had been treated in emergency room of Soon Chun Hyang Hospital, during 4 years from Jan. 1979 to Decern. 1983. The results are as follows: 1) Incidence in male was similar to that in female and the age group between 11 〜 15 years showed highest incidence. 2) The monthly incidence was highest in December and January and lowest during the summer period. 3) The earlier the arriving time, the lower the admission rate was. 4) The incidence of admission was 12.7% of all CO poisoning cases, and in the most cases they could be discharged on the visited day. 50.1% of admitted cases were stayed less than 5 days. 5) Hyperbaric oxygen therapy was given to 13.5% of all cases. This revealed the mild degree of poisoning compared to adult cases. 6) Among the 16 admitted cases, there were 14 cases of complications such as aspiration pneumonia(18.75%), trophic changes(12.5%), neurological disorders(43.75%), psychological disorders(12.5%).
