- Abstract
- This is a clinical observation of congenital anomalies in 55 newborn infants associated with hydramnios.
These infants were born at Severance Hospital from Sep. 1975 to Jun. 1983. The results were as follows: 1) The frequency of hydramnios was 49 cases in 160,060 deliveries in that period, which was 0.31%. 27 infants (49.1%) had congenital anomalies of 55 infants associated with hydramnios by adding twin babies. 2) Hydramnios was associated with high incidence of prematurity and low-birth-weight infant, and premature infants had high, incidence of congenital anomalies. 3)The incidence of multiple anomaly was noticed in 33.3% (9 cases) of infants associating congenital anomalies. The most common organ involved with these anomalies was gastrointe
stinal and musculoskeletal system in respectively 29.3% (12 cases), and anencephally was most frequently congenital anomaly in 6 cases. 4)The perinatal mortality rate was 60.0% (33 cases) and 48.5% (16 cases) of these were associated with congenital anomalies. 10 cases(47.6%) of 21 live-births with congenital anomalies were died in neonatal period.
