- A Clinical Study on Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus.

- Abstract
- The authors studied twelve cases of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus who were admitted to Pediatric Department of Keimyung University, Dong San Hospital from February 1975 to January 1983. Disease was developed after puberty in eight cases and effected both sexes equally and had tendency, prevalent in winter season. There was no significant family history except one case who had diabetic grandfather. HL-A typing was done on three cases and obtained HL-A B8 in two cases. All cases had underweight below 50th percentile and the principle symptoms and signs were polydipsia, polyuria, polyphasia and dehydration in order. Blood sugar was over 300mg%, urine sugar 4+ in all cases and five cases had ketoacidosis on admission. Seven cases were treated with insulin by intravenous continuous low dose infusion and five cases were by subcutaneous insulin therapy and obtained better result in low dose infusion therapy group. Eight cases were discharged in excellent condition.
