- Abstract
- Supravalvular stenotic ring of the left atrium is one of the rare anomalies, which is usually accompanied by other cardiac defects. It is very important to recognize its existence earlier and preoperatively. Main tools in. diagnosis are angiocardiography and echocardiography. We have experienced a patient with supravalvular stenotic ring of the left atrium with coexisted with VSD and PDA. M-mode echocardiographic findings are decreased EF slope, diastolic anterior motion of posterior mitral valve and abnormal echo between anterior and. posterior mitral valve leaflets. Supravalvular mitral ring is not visualized by 2D echo. Failure to demonstrate the ring is probably due to close attachment of ring to mitral valve and poor resolution of low frequency transducer. At operation, VSD was closed with patch and PDA was ligated. Supravalvular mitral ring was very closely attached to the anterior leaflet of mitral valve and posterior mitral annulue and was completely resected.
