A Clinical Study on he Intestinal Tuberculosis in Children.

Abstract
The following results were obtained through the clinical review of 24 cases with the intes- tinal tuberculosis under the age of 15 years which were treated at Seoul National University hospital and Kangnam General Hospital Public Corporation during the period of 6 years from January, 1977 to December, 1982. 1) The peak incidence was noted in the group aged 12 〜 15 years. The ratio of male to female was 1 : 1.4. 2) The chief complaints on diagnosis were abdominal distension (46%), abdominal pain (21%) and anorexia(13%), etc. 3) The frequent symptom on admission were abdominal pain, nausea with vomiting and diarrhea, etc; the frequent general symptom were fever, general weakness, anorexia, and weight loss, etc. 4) The frequent physical signs were abdominal distension, ascites, etc. 5) Laboratory investigation revealed anemia(75%), raised ESR(50%), hypoalbuminemia (33%) and positive occult blood in the stool(53%). As the result of tuberculin skin test, 80% of total cases showed positive reaction. 6) Radiologic findings were followed. Chest films showed consolidation(7 cases), tracheal & hilar lymph adenopathy (5 cases), etc. Plain films of abdomen showed gaseous distention (10cases), and ascites(9 cases), etc. Barium enema showed the most common involved site was the ileocecal region, which was shown in 75% of total cases. 7) The treatment was done as triple therapy with INH, PAS (or Rifampin, Ethambutol) and streptomycin. The symptom were relieved during the period of follow-up.
