- Abstract
- We have studied the hemoglobin level and. leukocyte count of 23 fullterm and 1 premature
jaundiced babies soon after exchange transfusion and daily thereafter until 7 days.
The resixlts are:
1) One exchange transfusion was enough in 16 patients but 8 were required more than
2times of exchange transfusion. The maximum is 6 times.
2) The postnatal age was ranged from 1 〜9 days (mean 4 days).
3) All patients showed a marked decrease in the hemoglobin level and leukocyte count soon
after exchange transfusion. The leukocyte count returned to normal by the 7th posttransfusion day
but hemoglobin level was still lower than normal until 7th posttransfusion day.
4) The polymorphonuclear neutrophils and eosinophils showed rapid increase after transfusion,
and returned to normal value within 7 days after transfusion.
5) The lymphocytes and monocytes showed slow increase within 3〜4 days and returned.
normal value on about 7th posttransfusion day.
