- Abstract
- Supracristal ventricular septal defect has engendered an interest in recent years because of
the racial difference in its incidence and the unusually high association of the aortic valve
abnormalities. The relative incidence of supracristal ventricular septal defect was studied in Korean.
During the period of eight years from January 1974 to December 1981, 119 cases(27.6%)
of supracristal type were noted among 431 cases of ventricular septal defect, who were operated at the Seoul National University Hospital. During the same period, 1727 cases of epen heart surgery were experienced.
There was no significant differences in age and sex distribution between supracristal and other types of ventricular septal defect. In Supracristal ventricular septal defect, the incidence of associated aortic regurgitation
(13.4%) was much higher than in the rest of the types (0〜2.0%). The incidence of supracristal ventricular septal defect in Korean is quite similar to those in Japanese and Chinese which showed also higher incidence compared to the Euroamerican patients.
