- A Clinical Observational on Stenens-Johnson Syndrome.

- Abstract
- A clinical study of 17 cases of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome in infancy and childhood, which
were admitted to the Pediatric Department of Keimyung University, School of Medicine
during the period of 6 and half years from January 1975 through July 1981 was made.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) Stevens-Johnson syndrome has tendency of increasing incidence in recent years. 64.4%
of the cases were seen during the period of 2 years between 1979 and 1980.
2) 65% of the cases were observed beyond the age of 5 years and male to female ratio was .3 : 1.
3) 70% of the cases were occured in winter and spring.
4) Cardinal symptoms and signs on admission were skin lesions (100%), fever(94.1%) and oral lesion(94.1%), Less commonly conjunctivitis was observed in 47.1%, pulmonary symptoms An 41.2% and anogenital lesions in 17.6%. 5) 30% of the cases developed leukocytosis with neutrophilia in 53%.
6) 12 pathogenic organisms were, cultured from throat, skin and urine.
Those were E. coli(5) Staphylococcus aureus (4), Diplococcus pneumoniae (2) and Hemophilus species (1).
7) Although it was hard to investigate the etiology, there was history to ingest antipyre~tics in 3 cases,
dilantin in 1 case, antibiotics in 1 case and herb medicine in 1 case before the onset of the disease.
