- Clinical and Bacteriological Studies of Urinary Tract Infection in infection in Infant and Children.

- Abstract
- Clinical and bacteriological studies on the 47 cases of urinary tract infection who were
admitted to the department of pediatrics of Chonnam University Medical school, during the
period of Mar. 1979 through Feb. 1982 were subjected in this study.
The results were as follows:
1) Among the total 47 cases, 30 cases (63.8%) were male and 17 cases(36.2%) were female,
2) Age incidence showed Ito 6 years old group was most commonly affected. The rate then decreased with age.
3) Monthly distribution was highest in September, but seasonal difference was not significant.
4) Fever was most common chief complaint vomiting, irritability and flank pain were next common.
5) Hematologic findings showed leukocytosis in 37 cases (78.9%) and low hemoglobin in incases (21.3%).
6) Urinalysis disclosed pyuria in 42 cases (89.3%), proteinuria in 23 cases (49.0%) and hematuria in 21 cases (44.7%). 7) E. Coli was the most prominent strain, cultured in 38 cases (80.9%).
8) IVP was performed in 19cases, and 8 cases of them showed abnormal findings.
9) U.R.I. typhid fever, pneumonia and acute glomerulonephritis were the common concurrent illnesses.
10) There were hydronephrosis, hydroureter, double ureter and double urethra as combined, anomalies in the urogenital tract.
