A Clinical Study on Reye Syndrome.

Abstract

We analyzed 15 infants and children who were admitted and diagnosed as Reye syndrome. at Gu Mi Soon Chun Hyang Hospital during the period of 9 months from Feb. 1981 to Oct. 1981 The results were as follows. 1) The cases of Reye syndrome were 15 patients (1. 6%) among 579 hospitaHzed patients and 4 patients (26.7%) died of Reye syndrome. 2) It affected male more than female in the ratio of 2 : 1 3) 11 cases among the 15 cases were belong to the age below 9 month and 4 cases were belong to the age group of 1 to 4 years. 4) The prominant preceding illness were URI, acute gastroenteritis, bronchiolitis, German. measles. 5) The main clinical manifestations were vomiting(66. 7%) , coughing(46.7%) , semicomatous mental state (13.3%) , drowsymental state (26. 7%). 6) Blood ammonia level over 100 units were noted 12 cases of the 15 cases.
