- Abstract
- A clinical and statistical observation was made on 383 low birth weight infants, delivered at Soon Chun Hyang hospital from Jan. 1st 1975 to May 31st 1980. The results were as follows: 1)Incidence of low birth weight infants was 5. 3% without sexual predominence, of which twin births were 13.3%, prematures were 78.3%, SGA were 26%.
2) Maternal predisposing factors of low birth weight infants were in order of twin births, toxemia, placenta adruption or placenta previa, and chronic infection or chronic illness. 3)Low birth weight infants were most prevalent among mothers who were under 20’years old or over 36 years old. 4) Abnormal presentations such as breech presentation were more common in low birth weights than that of total live births. 5) The mortality rate of low birth weight infants was 13. 6% without sexual predominence and inversely proportional to gestational age and birth weight. Most of the deaths occurred within 2 days of delivery. The mortality rate was most prevalent airong the mothers who were under 20 years old.
