- Abstract
- The measurements of the left mid arm circumference, skinfold thickness (triceps, subscap-ular, abdominal) by Holtain Skinfold Calipers, body weight and height were done 1293 cases (Male 665, Female 628),healthy Korean children aged from birth to 5 years, who visited to Busan National Univereity Hospital.
The author also observed arm muscle circumference, cross sectional muscle and fat areas by using Gurney and Jelliffers nomogram20. The results were summarized as follows: 1.The mid arm circumference was showed rapid increase from birth to 1 year, peak value was about 16 cm, thereafter slow increase during preschool period. There was no significant between both sex. The change pattern of mid arm circumference showed similar. to others, but the results had been slightly higher than other Korean r0)orts. 2.Skinfold thickness (triceps, subscapular, abdomen) showed rapid increase until 6 months or about 1 year and thereafter slow increase with age. In triceps skinfold thickness, the peak value showed at 18 months (10. 9 cm) and so, female were more slowly decreased than male. The change pattern of skinfold thickness was similar to others, but the results had been higher than other Korean reports. 3.Body weight and height were 25 〜 75 % of mean value of korean children. 4.Arm muscle circumference and cross sectional muscle area showed rapidly increase from
birth to 1 year and slow increase thereafter. Fat area showed rapidly increase from birth to 8〜 10 months thereafter slow decrease during preschool period.
