- Abstract
- This is the report of clinico-bacteriologic observations on the 1020 cases of pediatric infectious diseases which were admitted to the Pediatric Department of Presbyterian Hospital, Daegu, Korea during the period of July 1975 through June 1978. The Following results were obtained. 1. The organisms were cultured in 65 cases(6.4%) out of 1020 infectious cases. 2. Out of 65 postive cases, 32 cases(49.2%) were above the age of 5yrs. 3. Out of 65 Positive cases, 46 cases(70.8%) were male & 19 cases(29.2%) were female. The organisms were cultured in 6.7% of the males and 5.8% of the females. 4. Salmonella species were the most prevalent organism cultured(35 cases, 53.9%) and the hemolytic staphylococcus aureus(21 cases, 32.3%) were next highest. 5. Leukocytosis was present in 22 case(33.8%) and 36 cases(55.4%) had normal lukocyte count. 6. The most frequent clinical symptom was fever, present in 55 cases(84.6%), followed by abnormal gastrointestinal symptoms(29.2%) , and jaundice(13.8). 7. Pneumonia was the most common complication noted in 10 cases(15.4%). 8. The overall mortality was 11.3%. Out of 13 case of staphylococcal bacteremia, 3 cases(23.1%) died.
