- Abstract
- The total serum cholesterol concentration in 150 normal korean female infants and children and the ralationship between the total serum cholesterol concentration and their dietary fat intake in each age group are studied.
Summary : The average total serum cholesterol concentration is 152.7±26.9 mg/dl, J38.4±22.8mg/dl,
-137.9±22.4mg/dl and 139.9±18.1 mg/dl and the average of daily dietary fat intake is 14.7 cal%, 6.2cal%, 6.0cal%, and 7.0cal^ in infants, preschool age group, school age group and adolescent age group respectively.
The total serum cholesterol level in infants shows the highest concentration in all groups, on the other hand the levels in the groups after preschool period are generally low and show the almost same comcentration regardless to their age groups* At the same time the dailyb dietary fat intake in infant is higher than in the other groups and the average dietary fat intakes in the groups after preschool period are almost same level. The average total serum cholesterol concentration of unbilical cord blood, which was collected during the parturient period, is 76. ±11.4 mg/dl and it was significamtly low. Such evidences in this study suggestive of the total serum choresterol in infants and children is closely related with the dietary fat intake rather than with age.
