Abstract
Authers report their clinical observations on 29 cases of parathion intoxication seen at the Pusan National University Hospital between 1958~1960. Parathion is an ingredient of organic phosphate insecticides widely used in this country. Less than one year old were most easily affected (55%) and most instance(25 out of 29 cases), the cause of intoxication was directly attributable to care lessness in the part of parents who sprayed this insecticide within the confine of the human living which had been warned against. Interesting enough, the adults living together with the affected infants under the same expousure were spared from the poisoning. Clinical symptoms, signs and laboratory findings were described, as well as the treatment given to this group of patients. Mortality was 27%, there seemed to be no correlation between age of the patient, and the prognosis. Upon recoveries and at late follow ups, there were no appreciable recidual symptoms, nor any significant complication.
