- Abstract
- Serum chloride and urinary excretion of chloride were me asured in starved rabbits following the administration of hydrocortisone and compard with control group (rot administered hydrocortisone) The results were as follows; I In starved rabbits (without hydrocortisone administration) a.All rabbits were survived 14 days' period of acuite starvation. b.Serum chlorides were decreased gradually c.Urinary chlorides showed dramatic and decrease and reached at almost the lowest level on the 5th or 6th day of starvation. d. Decrements in body weight sere more gradual in this group comparing with the group admininstered hydrocortisone. II In starved rabbists administered hydrocortisone, 5mg or 10mg/kkg of B.W./day; a. Five of 6 rabbits died within 7days after acute starvation. b. Serum chlordes were increased gradually c. Urinary chlorides showed slight decrease on th first day after injection of hydrocortisone and thereafter gradual inverase until a day before death, when the urinary chlorides showed marked and dramatic increase. d. Decrements in body weight were more rapid
in this group comparing with the group not administered hydrocortisone. JU There were no remarkable differences in the changes of serum chlorides and urine chlorides between one group administered
hydrocortisone, 5mg/kg. of B.W. and another group adminstered 10mg/kg. of B.W. daily.
