- Abstract
- Among the patients with epidemic encephalitis in 1962, 21 patients were observed on the amount of
urinary sodium and potassium excretion The Tesults were as follows; 1) As a whole the amounts of urinary excretion of sodium and poassium showed very low value and some cases who had good prognosis showed rapid increase in the urinary sodium excretion, while the cases who had poor prognosis, expired or
had sequelae showed no such increase day by day. 2) In the correction of hyponatremia the amounts of
urinary sodium revealed increasing tendency while the amounts of urinary potassium showed decreasing
tendency. 3) Especially in the comatous patients, the amounts of urinary sodium and potassium revealed remark-
ably low value. 4) In acute stage the amounts of urinary sodium revealed tendency of positive balance while the am
ounts of urinary potassium showed tendency of negative balance.
