- Abstract
- 33 cases of tetanus neonatorum, who were treated in our department during 4 years from January 1967 to December 1970, are analized with the following results. 1.The overall mortality rate was 48. 5%. 2.The sex ratio (male to female) was 5. 7 I 1. 3.Most of patient were delivered at home by a non-professional midwife, but there were two patients who were delivered at a local medical clinic. 4.The shorter the incubation period was, the worse the prognosis was. 5. The smaller the body weight of a patient was, the worse the prognosis was. 6.The body temperature below normal and of high degree on admission of a patient was followed by bad prognosis.
7.The dosage of administered tetanus antitoxin seemed to display little influence on the prognosis. 8.In this analysis, the types and combination o£ administered sedatives, eg. phenobarbital alone, phenobarbital plus chlorpromazine, phenobarbital plus chloraldehyde, failed to reveal different influence on the prognosis.
