Abstract
The authors studied about 145 cases of acute glomerulonephritis, admitted to pediatric department of Han-11 Hospital, for 6 years (1969〜1974), and obtained the following results, comparing with the previous ones by Song et. al. (1969). 1)Incidences were higher in male (M : F=l. 9 : 1),highest in the age group of 7 to 9, and during the months of Oct. to Dec. The results were similar to those obtained by Song et al. 2)U.R.I. (upper respiratory tract infection) occupied the highest percentage of preceding infections (58%), and initial manifestation of acute glomerulonephritis was developed most frequently in 8 to 14 days. These results were not so different from those obtained 6 years before. Latent period between presumptive onset and admission was 5~9 days, in most cases. 3)The most common chief complaints were edema (83%), hematuria (43%), fever (30%), oliguria, cough, and headache in order of frequency, and the incidence of hematuria was significantly increased comparing with that obtained 6 years before. 4)The important clinical manifestations were edema, throat congestion, hypertension, and hepatomegaly. The incidence of throat congestion was more increased than that obtained 6 years before. 5)Proteinuria (94. 5%), hematuria (92.4%), and RBC cast (24.5%) were found by routine urinalysis. Beta-hemolytic streptococci were isolated from throat swab and culture in 23% of cases. A.S.O. increased over 250 Todd unit in 58%t and C.R.P. revealed positive result in 23.5%. 6)Cardiomegaly, increased pulmonary vascular marking, pulmonary edema or pleural effusion in 83 of 90 cases were shown on chest P-A X-ray films checked 2 times or more, and they were closely associated with high diastolic blood pressure of 90mmHg or more. These findings were similar to those obtained 6 years before. 7)In the follow-up study, clinical manifestations and hematology, and urine findings which had been abnormal return to normal ranges within 2, 4, and 8 weeks, respectively. These results were also similar to those obtained 6 years before. 8)The most frequent complications were congestive heart failure (24. 5%), and convulsion, while neither uremic coma nor fatal case was observed.
